To ensure your equipment lasts as long as possible, take a little time to follow these guidelines.

Cleaning Screens / Displays

  • Purchase a specifically labelled screen cleaning solution, use directions as provided on the product.
  • Do not use paper towels to wipe your screen during cleaning
  • Do not saturate the screen with excessive moisture during cleaning
  • Do not use household cleaners or solutions like dishwasher liquid or creme cleansers.

If you use anything other than a specific screen cleaning product, you will create scratches and screen fade which become very noticeable over time (or immediately soon after if aggressive cleaning solutions are used).

Cleaning computer chassis / Body / Keyboard / Trackpads / Mouse / Computer Accessories

  • Using a clean lint-free cloth, lightly moisten with warm water and gently remove grease and other marks (ensure to squeeze excess moisture out before use).
  • Do not use household cleaners or solutions like dishwasher liquid or creme cleansers.

Software

  • Have anti-virus / anti-malware software installed
  • Backup the computer, knowing you can lose all information at any time will make you better prepared!
  • Product activation and usage, know what the rescue email address is for any online services or the contact details for your technical support person

Insurance

Any specific computer item does not have to be itemised on your insurance policy, however, do keep a copy of the device serial number and any features that might be needed when an insurance replacement event arises.

Without a purchase receipt and/or serial number and specifications for aged devices, any insurance claim could be rejected.
